Military dad surprises son with early homecoming during school lunch

There’s nothing more heartwarming than seeing a friend that you haven’t seen in a long time. When that friend is also your dad, all the love, warmth and emotion are magnified. In a viral video posted on YouTube by the Missourian that has been viewed more than 5 million times, we get to see what this type of meeting looks like.
In the video, Blake Peters is sitting in the lunchroom at Washington West Elementary School in Missouri enjoying his food. As the camera pans to him, he is seated and licking his fingers. When he sees the camera he waves to the camera person. Then something unexpected happens to Blake — his dad comes up behind him and startles him. Far from being frightened or nonplussed, Blake is excited. He jumps up, hugs his dad like he doesn’t want to let go and starts crying.
Blake was overcome with emotion because he hadn’t seen his dad, Army Specialist Matthew Peters, for an extended period of time. According to the Huffington Post, Matthew had been serving with the Army in Kuwait and Iraq. As Blake and Matthew hugged, everyone in the cafeteria started clapping to show their approval. Blake was interviewed after the encounter, and he was a man of little words. When asked how it felt to have his dad home, he replied “Very good.”
