Leslie, perhaps more commonly known as 'The Tourist', is a photographer and explorer based in Ontario, Canada. She runs an Instagram account that documents her many adventures and experiences. She's drawn to abandoned spaces and desolate-looking area. Though it may sound like this makes for some grim photography, it's actually quite beautiful.
One afternoon, upon exploring a home Leslie thought to be abandoned, she came face-to-face with an elderly man who lived there. Lawrence spent most his time in the house, alone. "He has a hard time getting around so he spends most of his time in there," she noted in the caption.
But Leslie wasn't scared away by the man's presence, nor did she shy away from what she came to do. The photographer snapped a picture of Lawrence in his home and shared his story with the world. In the process, she made a new friend.
"He is a beautiful soul and I plan on visiting him a lot," she wrote. Leslie's intentions were pure, as she made it a point to spend time with Lawrence, whether they would eat together or just chat.
"I've managed to remove his old fridge, stove, and chest freezer, along with numerous bags of garbage and other content," Leslie explained, "This was all made possible by a very generous company and a few awesome boys with big hearts and strong lower backs."
After a few trips to the doctors, Leslie learned that her friend's health was in decline. "These may be the last few months I have with my friend and I plan to make them as comfortable and enjoyable for him as possible," she wrote.
Several weeks ago, Lawrence moved into a retirement home. Leslie visits him frequently and brings her dog along to warm his spirits. On Valentine's Day, she was by his side to celebrate his birthday.
The two regularly see each other, with Leslie documenting their time together on her Instagram. And to think this all came from Leslie's yearning to take photos of a seemingly abandoned home.
